Rain On And Style On For Fall 2012

This time of year can tend to be a little frightening, especially with evil Hurricane Sandy making his ghastly and unwelcoming appearance. That son of a bitch ruined our island, devastated homes, and placed new challenges and many unnecessary obstacles that will take time and patience to heal. Fortunately, Atlantic County has provided many assistance programs to help us/those in need. For those of you whom do not know what to do please contact FEMA or the American Red Cross and  they will do more than they can to assist you with you with answers, supplies, questions, and even hot meals. Of course, this is a fashion site, and I have decided to dedicate this post as a way to stay prepared, dry, and looking fly for the remainder of this rainy season.

As it starts to get cooler, more rain drops and clouds hang out more often than blue skies and sunlight. I wake up every morning around the same time seeing the animated woman in the “Abilify”  commercial with the cloud wrapped around her like a robe knowing this is what  women would prefer to wear. Please DO NOT.  We may have the confusing yet sad moment of debating whether to put away the black mini in a coffin until New Years or until vitamin D and dark club nights appear again. However,  this is not a time to take drastic measures by putting away the necessities. Instead, we want to add the trendy and useful garments and accessories to aid us for the Fall 2012 season.

Get Nailed This Fall!

Everyone is getting nailed this Fall 2012. Well, some more than others, but I hope everyone is getting nailed properly by at least following the awesome nail trends that are everywhere from the runway to the sidewalk. COLOR IS HUGE for Fall 2012, but it’s not the drab colors from the past. Don’t get me wrong, the earth tones are still prominent, but they are broad and rich. Hues of deep greens, eggplant purples, Olympic navy blues, and intense burgundies are the main colors of this oncoming season.

A trend that I absolutely fell head over nails with is matte polish. Sephora by O.P.I. makes a clear/white looking polish, which you paint over any color polish and it creates a “matte” effect. For the DIY nail person, this product is very easy to use and can be combined

with other techniques such as applying a thin line of the same color polish creating a “french” style on the tip. By applying just the polished line over the matte, it creates a very unique and funky contrast that is super simple to develop and maintain.

Be Best “Dressed” For Fall 2012

September is a wonderful time of year to wear dresses. The weather is still warm enough for dresses during the day and they can easily be converted into evening wear with the appropriate accessories. For example, it can be chilly at night so I  highly recommend bringing a cardigan, zip-up, fancy business style jacket

Herringbone Tweed Jacket

(HUGE FOR FALL ESPECIALLY TWEED), or whatever the event or situation calls for (and is consistent with your dress obviously.)

For the gal on a budget, I fully understand. I go to Kohl’s all the time for dresses. The LC by Lauren Conrad is a great line that is perfect for purchasing the day to evening dresses. These dresses are spot on with the Fall 2012 color wheel as well and tend to be inexpensive.

For the girl looking to dress up for a night on the town or special occasion, I highly recommend wearing something unique. Sherri Hill is a great designer of party, prom, and cocktail dresses/gowns. The dress displayed below is ultra fun, comfortable, and has the adequate amount of sexiness and embellishments.

I am a huge fan of dresses in general and I feel most women tend to avoid them during the Fall and Winter seasons. With the proper accessories i.e. tights, jackets, boots, dresses can be worn year round. Be best dressed and “Dress Like The Star You Are.”

Nerd Is The Word

I am loving nerds this Fall (the men, not the candy)! Nerd is a HOT look right now and will be continuing into Fall/Winter 2012. Let’s face it, that guy who sat next to you in computer science 101 was probably someone you never would have dated. In fact, he probably signed you into class and took your notes for you when you didn’t feel like attending. However, Men’s the fashion look for fall is very “nerdy meets classy,” and with the proper items, any nerd can look HOT!

Plaid is perfect for fall and looks great on most men!

Paint The Town Tweed…5 Ways To Rock Tweed For Fall!

I know…it is hot outside. I have enough anxiety thinking about what to wear tomorrow, let alone the patience and mental capacity to start thinking about Fall. However, tweed is going to be HUGE as far as the fashion trending reports for Fall 2012. To make your lives easier, I have put together five ways to look kick ass in tweed (and spend more money on fashion, not xanax).

The obvious is to dress tweed up i.e. for the office. Tory Burch has a great tweed suit that incorporates red and french roast from the fall 2012 color wheel. I love this suit because it looks fab together but can be dressed down by wearing only the jacket with jeans or slacks, or the skirt with an elegant blouse.

Batting .500 With Sexy Phillies Phashion!

Back in the day (a few years ago), it was almost impossible to find fun and sexy team affiliated sportswear for women. I literally had to go to the little boy’s department to find a smaller fitting tank or T with the hope of people not looking at me strangely, and thinking I am shopping for my imaginary son. I am currently digging PINK by Victoria’s Secret’s new line of sexy, embellished MLB and NFL clothing. Living in South Jersey and so close to Philadelphia, the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and 76ers are the teams most followed, but this new line carries a myriad of teams and even has a new collegiate collection.

The line is chock full of comfy yoga pants, hoodies with sequins, fitted jerseys, and adorable panties. I recommend not wearing only the panties to your local bar or stadium. Continue reading »

Jeans At The Gym…REALLY?

Denim and sweat never mixed.  I never intentionally tried to overly exert myself wearing a tight pair of Hudson’s and heels, except to dance. It has come to my attention that an astronomical amount of people are wearing the weirdest clothes to the gym and I just don’t understand. From the uncomfortably hot corduroy pants with Timberlands, to jeans and converse (a shoe that weighs ten pounds and provides zero back support), I feel it is my social media obligation to point out that this has become a disturbance to myself and others. It is a common misconception that wearing excessive clothing will make you sweat to lower body weight. You actually want to keep the body cooler because it has to work harder to maintain the average body temperature of 98.6 degrees. This revs the metabolism! girl wearing jeans at the gym

This is a FASHION FAIL! I understand with a lack of time and busy schedule, you try to get to the gym no matter how, where, and why. However, this derails the focus of my own workout and is not doing anything for you, aside from making you look ridiculous. This is 2012. Work out clothes are more accessible and fashionable than ever. Buying the appropriate clothing to workout in will enhance your exercise experience by allowing the body to be comfortable and enhance self-esteem. If you are on a budget, I understand. Get a classic T and some sweats and get your ass to the gym. If you have the ability to buy some fun workout gear and cross trainers/running shoes, please GO SHOPPING! This doesn’t have to be haute couture. Kohl’s, Target, and sport outlets are great places to shop for clothing to get your sweat on. Neon is all the rage right now, especially in workout attire and available everywhere. Dress in something that will have you staring in the mirror saying quietly in your head “Damn, I look good. If I had another phone number, I would ask myself for it.” Keep a bag of gym clothes and sneakers in your car, so when you want to workout you can change in the locker room and not look like Jay-Z or Lady Gaga on a treadmill. Keep it classy and “Dress Like the Star You Are.”

Iced Mocha-No-No…A Small Dose of Coffee Nutrition

It feels like 125 degrees outside, its humid and you are DRAGGING. Your hair, that you just spent an hour ironing, is now wavy and you are pissed off. You have to be somewhere and you plan on being fashionably late because you have to stop for that caffeine “pick me up.” I used to be little miss latte and couldn’t function without a coffee. I would walk the streets of Boston with an iPod in one hand and some fancy caffeinated cerveza in the other. Now that I know the facts, I have had to change my ways and hopefully this encourages you to do the same.

I am a firm believer it is necessary to indulge once in a while, so I am not telling you to never enjoy a guilty pleasure. Like everything, moderation is the key to maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Even though we love caffeine for its metabolism boosting effect, it has serious health risks. Like we don’t have enough problems already, who needs more anxiety? Too much caffeine can make you irritable, anxious, give you headaches, and cause withdrawal. This stimulant is so crazy that you can even overdose on it and the American Psychiatric Association currently recognizes four disorders all from caffeine! Umm…scary much? On average, coffee contains around 20mg of caffeine per fluid ounce and 75mg in espresso. Try to limit daily intake UNDER 250mg, unless you want to become an addict. Worse yet, diet pills and energy drinks often contain over 200 mg of caffeine, not to mention numerous other stimulants.  High doses, such as these, are considered to be over 300mg and can cause anxiety and trigger certain psychological disorders. Dressing Like A Whore At The Casino…RANT!

Tags

, , , , , ,

I spend a fair amount of time in casinos living so close to Atlantic City (mostly due to a lack of somewhere better to go, and earning tier credits for free crap is always a bonus). I just do NOT UNDERSTAND why girls of all ages from 15 to 50 feel the need to squeeze into the most provocative outfit, and then pair it with stripper heels to walk around the casino. Half of the women do this to draw attention to themselves and then bitch about it when everyone stares. I know you are single and desperate and most men, not all of them, are attracted to whorish clothing. However, the casino is a Pandora’s box of vices…gambling, drinking, and smoking all under one roof. Is this really the new spot to meet Mr. Right? This is not the place to dress like a “working girl” (prostitute). If you decide to take that route, then please take a leisurely walk outside to the curb and join your “co-workers” on Pacific Avenue.

Wearing a sexy top with jeans and classic pumps is always a great choice. Note: unless you have a lingerie photo shoot to attend please wear a bra if you feel the need for “see-through.”

It is possible to dress sexy and still maintain your dignity when looking at the photos your friends took of you the following morning (or afternoon). You probably slept in your outfit and did a “walk of shame” anyway (also very chic), so to avoid further humiliation please keep it classy and “Dress Like The Star That You Are.”
